Abstract


In view of the factors in design theory and method of corrugated steel pipeculvert that is now in service in highway engineering. This article that was combinedwith the engineering practice adopted theoretical analysis, field test and simulationtest, studied force deformation characteristic of corrugated steel pipe culvert and itsdesign calculation methods, construction technology, and quality control standards.The main results were shown as the following:1. Stress deformation characteristic of the corrugated steel pipe culvert wasstudied through the field test, the law of stress and strain in the corrugated steel pipeculvert was analyzed under the action of different height of the filling soil and drivingload; the pipe top and orthogonal position were the place where stress and thedeformation were in the most unfavorable condition in the corrugated steel pipeculvert; control design of earth pressure under high-filled in culvert crown wassuggested.2. A large indoor simulation experiment platform which was similar to thepractical embankment bury conditions of culvert was developed independently. Thispaper studied the stress and deformation characteristics of corrugated steel pipeculvert under different pipe diameters, filling height and other factors. This paperpresented the essential difference of stress and deformation under the filling loadbetween the pipe diameter which was more than75cm and less than75cm whendesign parameters of the corrugated steel pipe culvert were in the same condition. Andalso, the probable location broken first with the increase of fill load under differentpipe diameters was inferred.3. Based on the numerical simulation method, this paper analysed the stressdeformation characteristic and change law of corrugated steel pipe culvert when thefill height, pipe diameter, soil modulus and corrugation parameters changed. The earthpressure on the culvert crown changed greatly when the soil modulus varied. And also,the vehicle load could be ignored when the fill height was more than5m. After a comparative analysis of the numerical results with the indoor model test and field testresults, the effects of bury conditions, terrain conditions, soil properties, constructionmethods and other factors on the engineering characteristics of corrugated steel pipeculvert were obtained.4. The buried condition and corrugated wall thickness of the culverts wasconsidered by using elastic theory, the deformated calculation formula of corrugatedsteel pipe culvert which under the filling load was established, the formula of theengineering application was analysed, and the analytical results of model test, fieldtest, numerical calculation were compared, the results show that the numericalcalculation were in good agreement with the model test and field test, the designtheory of corrugated steel pipe culvert was provided by this formula.5. The design calculation methods of the corrugated steel pipe culvert and itsdesign technical parameters which could be used as reference in actual were offered.The technical defects which were caused by single size of the existing corrugatedsteel pipe culverts were overcome. The control standards of the construction qualityof the highway subgrade corrugated steel pipe culvert were established, and theproper construction technology was put forward, and it laid a foundation for therelated compilation of the technical specification and the wide use of this technology.The research results solve the technical difficulties in engineering application ofthe corrugated steel pipe culvert, which have an important theory and project practicalvalue and have brighted application prospect.
