BackgroundThe brain damage syndrome is an interim diagnosis for the high risk infant with brain damage who has not been clearly diagnosed with cerebral palsy, dysgnosia, language disorders, epilepsy or dystropy, and is commonly used in babies before six-month-old. Because of the development of perinatology and the newborn emergency medicine, the neonatal mortality rate drops considerably and the neonatal survival rate of the premature, very low birth weight infants and the critically ill babies rise gradually. It leads to a trend of ascent in the morbidity of brain damage syndrome. As the development of rehabilitative medicine technology and the raise of knowledge on brain damage, to play early intervention for these high risk infants and promote their nervous development normally and educe the formation rate of nervous system sequela is the common view nowadays.ObjectiveEmploy intelligence seven needle treatment for infants with perinatal brain damage syndrome as early intervention, compared with the control group, observe the influence of the infants of neural development after this therapy, for provide the basis for clinical application.MethodsA randomized controlled trial was conducted.64infants with BDS in Nanhai Affiliated Maternity and Children’s Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine were selected,62infants were enter into analysis,32infants of experimental group and30infants of control group. Both the groups received the routine early intervention for get well, moreover, the experimental group received the treatment of intelligence seven needle adding. The intelligence seven needle treatment of each time was lasted30minutes,3times a week, in total10times,20days as a treatment course,3treatment courses would be taken, with10days rest between each course. Before and right after the treatment designed, the Bai ley infant development scale (BIDS), Gesell Developmental Seales and The Gross Motor Function Measure(GMFM) were tested. The Transcranial doppler color dopplar ultrasound(TCD) and Head imaging examination were tested before, and some items were tested again after the treatment designed which resuslt of the above was abnormal before. All data would be analyzed by SPSS13.0.Results1. After the treatment, group of experimental has a significant superiority in improving the score reach normalization in Mental Development Index (MDI) by DSID compared with the control group (P<0.05), but no discrepancy in psychomotor development index (PDI)(P>0.05).2. The children’s development quotients (DQ) in both groups are improved. The experimental group has a significant superiority in improving the DQ of social adaptation by Gesell Developmental Seales compared with the control group(P<0.01), and gross motor function, linguistic and social intercourse tested by Gesell Developmental Scales com pared with the control group(P<0.05), but no discrepancy in the fine movement DQ(P>0.05).3. The scores of GMFM are higher compared before and right after the treatment both the groups (P<0.01). After the treatment, the total score in the experimental group is higher than the control group (P>0.05).4. There are some recovery both groups on TCD after treatment. Compared the two groups, experimental group has a significant recovery rate than control group (P<0.05).5. Follow-up more3months after finished the treatment, there are some recovery both groups on broadening of brain outside space by Head imaging examination. Compared the two groups, experimental group has a significant recovery rate than control group(P<0.05).ConclusionThe developmental level of the intelligence, motion function, linguistic competence and social intercourse can be promoted by treating the infants with perinatal brain damage syndrome by Intelligence seven needle therapy. Besides, Intelligence seven needle therapy can better the brain blood supply, can promote the recovery of brain structure by CT/MRI, mainly can promote the growth of Frontal lobe, parietal lobe and temporal lobe.
