Abstract


Video conference system allows geographically scattered users to communicate witheach other in real time with some means, such as audio and video. But the video conferencebased on IP network not only consumes lots of bandwidth, but also has strict requirements ondelay, loss rate, jitter and etc. The traditional best effort network service can not satisfy it. Asa result, supporting the application of video conference with QoS guarantee technology isworthy of research.This paper focus on the research of theory and practical technology on QoS guarantee forapplication of video conference. It includes the architecture of DiffServ, IP multicast, theframework and policies of resource and admission control functions, MOS, somecommunication protocols and etc. With the theoretical foundation and actual demands, wepropose the design of QoS management subsystem. It consists of generic kernel, videoconference adapter and management terminal. Generic kernel is the core of this system, andprovides service access methods to higher layer applications for QoS guarantee service. Itsfunctions include communication, managing the guarantee business with service policies andschedule informations, handling resource allocation with the logical structure resource matrix,requesting devices agents to configure the network devices, organizing network measurement,collecting QoS reports from terminals to carry out quality monitoring and quality evaluation.Video conference adapter deals with the exchange between video conference system and QoSmanagement subsystem. Management terminal is a supervisory channel for user.This paper discusses the design and implement of QoS management subsystem in detail.Meanwhile, it presents the test and analysis of basic functions, performance and efficacy inorder to demonstrate the correctness of the theory and the feasibility of the design.
