Abstract


Mathematics basic design of comprehensive atlas is an important segment of atlas overalldesign, it’s the important guarantee of atlas’s scientific and systematic. Along with thedevelopment of new technique and application requirement, atlas design and compilation havebeen extensively developed at home and abroad. The flourish of atlas put forward higher demandto its mathematics basic. Focus on map projection selection and design, this paper researchedand practiced on atlas mathematics basic design. The main contents of this paper are:1. Considering the connotation and characteristics of atlas, discussed the main contents ofatlas mathematics basic design, analyzed atlas’s essential demand for mathematics basic,elaborated the principle of atlas projection selection and design.2. Summarized and analyzed the commonly used projections of world map, continent map,ocean map, nation and region map in domestic and overseas atlas, analyzed the developmenttrend of atlas projection selection and design, discussed the noteworthy matters in atlasprojection selection and design.3. Researched certain number of problems in atlas projection selection and design. Providedscientific method to analyze distortion distribution in large range mapping region on the base ofsample statistics distortion analyze method; searched non-standard ellipse-longitude equivalentpseudo-cylindrical projection which can ameliorate world map’s distortion and geographicmesh’s vision effect; established Winkel Tripel projection’s general formula, ameliorate thisprojection’s total distortion on the base of its principle; in order to enhance the spherical andspatial sensation of continent map’s geographic mesh, researched reverse external perspectiveazimuthal projection; fitting equivalent difference latitude parallel polyconic projection’s postivesolution formula which can guarantee the precision of world map use this projection, enhancedthis projection’s adaptability to new mapping page through expand this projection’s postivesolution formula.4. Established experiment system of atlas mathematics basic design. Apply this paper’sresearch achievements to new edition officer atlas mathematics basic design, put forward theprojection selection and design proposal of this atlas’s main sheet.The research of this paper provides theoretical and technical reference for atlas mathematicsbasic design and enhance design standard. Besides, this paper has important significance andvalue to perfect and develop the theory and method of map projection.
