The static gauge of the rolling stock is a limiting cross-sectional contourperpendicular to the centerline of the rail line, when the rolling stock stops on the railline, the clearance formed by the outermost contour points of the rolling stock iscalled the static gauge. In the gauge standards of China, static gauge is a basiccondition to ensure the safe operation of the rolling stocks, and also a reference tocalculate other gauges such as dynamic gauge. With the rapid development of China’shigh-speed railway, higher speed and greater requirement of transport require a higherstandard of safe operation of railway.Traditional testing of the static gauge is usually artificial-contact measurementby means of basic gauge corresponding to national standard GBT16904so that itsshortcutting is low accuracy and non-automated. With the development of non-contact measurement, optical measuring technology is gradually applied on gaugemeasurement, and there are field-proven non-contact gauging measurement systemsoverseas. Aiming at the present situation and problems of static gauge measurement,in this subject, the research goal is to design a new non-contact, automated staticgauge measuring system of rolling stock.With reference to laser scanning technology, based on laser measurement andindustrial automation, the scheme of new type of static gauge measuring system isestablished in this text. According to the operation principle and structural design,firstly detailed analysis of laser range finder and scanning mechanism is finished, andLRFS-0200-485laser range finder is chosen as the laser distance measurement sensor,then the type selection and performance verification of mechanical structure ofscanning mechanism is finished. With the analysis of mathematical model ofmeasuring system, the parametric representation of measuring point is put forward. Inorder to meet the requirement of mathematical model and static gauge measurement,the construction and recovery method based on the laser tracker of the rail coordinatesystem and relevant assistant tool are designed, then implementing scheme ofcalibration of local parameters and unification of system coordinate is constructed. Atlast system parameters solution based on same name point is studied, and special auxiliary calibrator is designed.After verifications, the measurement accuracy of this system is better than0.5mm, meeting the requirements of static gauging measurement of high-speed railwayvehicle, and this system has applied in China Academy of Railway Sciences.
