Abstract


This paper is a case study about village ritual, focusing on the relationshipamong village, ceremony and people, i.e. the BiangBiang Fair of Yaoma Village inQinghai Province, a relationship between ceremony and the village environment. Withthe methodology of saying something of something, the paper studied the generalknowledge of village community culture and local wisdom. The purpose is to findknowledge and rules in the village life and facts.BiangBiang Fair of Yaoma Village is a festival temple fair held on every LunarMarch3rdby the Tus in Yaoma Village, Huzhu County of Qinghai Province. Thepriority of this paper is about its ceremony part. This paper has six chapters includingthe forward and the five chapters of the main body. The forward introduces the reasonof choosing the topic, methodology, the main path of field study, the data collection aswell as the definition of terms and proverbs. The main body is divided into Village,Sacrifices, Paper craft, Inheritance and Conclusion five parts. The first chapter ofVillage introduces the daily life in this village and the local faith there, which is abasic nation description about the village environment where the ceremony happens.The second chapter firstly talks about the correlation between ceremony time andspace and then studies the various levels of the ceremony through the in-depthdescription of the ceremony, in order to showcase the distinction and identificationamong people, village and ethnic groups as well as the hidden power relationship andfind the multiple perspectives of learning the local culture. The third chapter studiesthe local paper craft to show the inner correlation hidden in the ceremony, describesthe communication meaning of paper craft in village social network, and analyzes theimage of dragon to discover the historical meaning of burning the dragon flag. Thefourth chapter analyzes the economic and social factors affecting village culturedevelopment by taking the example of BiangBiang Fair inheriting the Tujia traditionsin a historical framework.
