Abstract

During the Anti-Japanese War, the Chinese nation faced survival crisis. At this point, the women’s liberation movement also has gained great development, especially after the baptism of the May4th new culture movement, the thought of women as "independent personality" impression has been etched deeply in women’s mind. At the same time, since Zhou Nan girls’school found by Zhu jianfan in1905, it has developed into a famous school across the whole Hunan province and even China after more than30years, and has a very important position in the history of modern woman’s education. It had nurtured generation after generation of female students to be a typical representative of the "New Woman".Under the background of that specific space and time, Zhou Nan female students consciously followed the example of Madame Curie as "student" played them, and made efforts to learn scientific and cultural knowledge in order to contribute to the resistance of the war and the construction of a new country. The Anti-Japanese War is a national war and nationalism has become a national mainstream words. Propaganda of national consciousness and national identity is of great significance, especially for female students and even the entire women’s groups. Female students have deeply realized their own national identity, at the same time; they practiced it through to deal with public schools, conducted fundraising, advised storage activities and organize agricultural production and so on. The female students trained in the new education have profoundly realized their "new women" identity. They consciously made the liberation of women leaders as own duty, discussed the problems such as what kind of woman is truly "new women" and positively explored the ways of women’s liberation.Female student’s multiple identities were not independent body, but through fusion in the two main rope of nationalism and the women’s liberation. The women’s liberation movement during this period is hard to avoid being placed in a strong nationalist discourse and the inherent logic and pattern of the women’s liberation is still as before. In the special Anti-Japanese War background, the lens focus on the female students and inspects their multiple identities and practice will be profoundly significant for us to understand the special situation and development of women’s education in the Kuomintang-ruled area, and enrich the study of it.
