Abstract


Mathematics has always been the core subject of the fundamental education of thecountries in the world. In the early stage of the21stcentury, the countries in the world havebeen carrying out new mathematics course standard. In the revised draft of the CompulsoryEducation Mathematics Course Standard of our country, it points out in the basic principlethat “Mathematics course can make students master necessary basic knowledge and skills,cultivate their abstract logic and inferential capability”.“Inferential capability” is one of theten core terms in the Standard.[1]Thus it can be seen that the cultivation of inferentialcapability is a very important content in the mathematics course of our country. The researchand study about how to cultivate the inferential capability of students is very meaningful.From2009, America has issued in succession the guidance outline of high schoolmathematics–《Focus in High School Mathematics:Reasoning and Sense Making》[2].(Hereinafter referred to as《Focus》).The series of books specialize in how to develop theability of reasoning and sense making. There are many examples in these books that tellteacher how to foster student’s abilities of reasoning and sense making. The research andstudy select the case in《Focus in High School Mathematics:Reasoning and Sense Making inAlgebra》[3](Hereinafter referred to as《Focus-Algebra》) to translate, settle and analyze.After analyzing the background of the case in the book,ideology and method etc., theauthor reaches the following conclusion:1. Research style teaching can enhance reasoningand sense meaning;2. Combine algebra and geometry can enhance the construction ofinferential and meaning in algebra;3.The habit of delay evaluation can help the transition ofstudents from arithmetic to algebra;4. Search for regular pattern from repeated experiment andcalculation is a very helpful habit in solving the problems of establishing equation andfunction. He also analyses the effects that《Focus》bring to the Common Core State Standardsfor Mathematics and the algebra teaching of our country.
