Clinical Study of the Extremely Low-frequency Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields on Accelerating Fracture Healing

Objective:To study the clinical effect of Extremely Low-frequency Electromagnetic fields (ELFEMFs) treating fresh fracture of limbs.Methods:We collected the date of 120 fresh fracture of limbs patients require surgery. The average age of the patients is 45(18-71). They were randomly divided into two groups according to the balanced consistency principle, each group of 60 examples. The patients of control group were treated with routine therapy and the patient of treatment group with ELFEMFs after the operation. The instrument which gives the pulse electromagnetic fields treatment is provided by Tianjin Xi-tong Electronics Equipment Co., Ltd. and such fundamental parameter is as follows:The wave pat-tern is the pointed top, attenuated wave pattern; The frequency in pulsed magnetic fields is 2-32Hz; The magnetic field intensity is 1.5-5.0mT. On the 3rd day after the operations, the treatment group starts the PEMFs treatment course. The control group does not intervene. Two groups’x-ray in 4,8,12 weeks after surgery was ex-amined. Their BGP, BALP and PICP before and after the operation when the EL-FEMFs treatment completed was examined. To observe the effect of PEMFs on fracture.Results:1. The radiographic examination showed that the callus formation of the two groups were significantly higher than before with the time coursing (P<0.01). At the same time point, there were statistically significant amount of callus formation in extremely Low-frequency electromagnetic fields group compared to the control group (P<0.05).2. In biochemical marks of bone examination, the BGP, BALP and PICP was no significant difference between two groups before surgery (P>0.05). The BGP, BALP and PICP of the control group after 12 weeks compared with preoperative, which had a statistically significance(P<0.05). There were statistically significantamount of the BGP, BALP and PICP of the treatment was treated with PEMFs in-creased apparently compared with preoperative(P<0.01). The BGP, BALP and PICPof the treatment was treated with PEMFs compared with the control group after 12weeks, which had a statistically significance(P<0.05).Conclusion:1. The extremely low-frequency pulse electromagnetic fields could promote the growth of callus so that they can accelerate the healing process of bone fracture.2. The extremely low-frequency pulse electromagnetic fields has not obvious side effects on the bone fracture.
