This thesis elaborates Benjamin’s points about the communication of culture mostly in his thesis ’Arts in the Age of its Technological ReproducibilityWaler Benjamin was one member of the Frankfurt school. When most of the school criticized pessimistically the medium and mass culture, he expressed different points and found a new positive way. There are conflicts of different ideas inside Benjamin. He is a radical intellectual, meanwhile a romantic reminiscent scholar. In ’Arts in the Age of its Technological Reproducibility’, Benjamin shows optimism about the future of the technological reproducibility.Benjamin analyses how the development of technology effects the arts and culture. (He discusses right the art works , but he thinks more than the art works.) He tells us the epochal importance of the photography and film as new styles of producing image. He is the first one to elaborate this view. As for photography, Benjamin gives us a new point different from before. He sets it free from traditional view of arts, and finds its historical and cultural value. He doesn’t protect the legality of the photo in the family of traditional arts any more . Instead, he pays attention to the new culture medium and way to watch the world provided by the photography.Film can make the familiar strange and enlarge the detail. What’s more, the film arises a new style of participant. Considering some political factors, he believes that the technological copy arts such as film can help the shaping of the proletariatToday photography and film are imitated, copied, memorized, translated and transmitted in a digital way. Benjamin’s view can be switched to think about the effects of the digital technique.
