Abstract

With the development of research and application of biomass gasification technology, the influence of biomass tar brings much attention. At the basis on the research conclusions of forerunners, extensive study was performed on the biomass gasification and catalytic cracking of biomass tar.The production of biomass tar is influenced by catalyst type, gasification agent, heating rate and other operation parameters, and it may cause great harm to the gasification system and gas consummation equipment. However, traditional tar removal technology, such as filtration, wet cleaning and thermal decomposition, can’t meet with the need for relatively clean gas. Catalytic cracking of tar is viewed as one prominent tar reduction technology that has become the hot spot of investigation. Extensive review was made on the development of the technology of catalytic cracking of tar, and detail discuss was also made on the research conclusion of dolomite catalyst. The main study contents and results are followed:1. Extensive experiment on tar cracking was performed on bench-scale fixed bed tar catalytic cracking test system.2. A set of full gas analysis means which can fit the need of fuel gas analysis was built.3. Four different area dolomites were all calcined at 900 °C for 4 hours. And the physical and chemical characteristics of the four types of dolomite were test.4. Using poplar sawdust as raw material, we research that the yield of fuel gas, tar and char was influenced by the gasification conditions, such as the gasification temperature, heating rate, and steam quantity in the gasifier.5. Product from poplar sawdust gasification was used as the source of tar. Catalytic cracking of tar was performed in a secondary fixed-bed cracker with the four types of dolomite as catalyst. Operation parameters like cracking temperature (800-1000°C), catalyst types and residence time of reaction was investigated for their influence on tar cracking and gas quality. The performance of different area catalysts was compared in order to seek for
