Knee osteoarthritis(OA),known as articular genu ache, stiffness, limitation of activity,even arthrosis abnormity, is a common disease. A latest definition introduced at the international conference 1995, that was OA as the result of disequilibrium of decompose and anabolic metabolism among cartilage cell, ECM and cartilage sending down fishbone, caused by the integration of mechanics factors and biological factors. Etiological factor is various. Aside from age ,obesity, overloading exercise, heredity, circumstance, food, gender and so on may also play an important role in it. Studies of modern biomedicine have indicated that cytokine, growth factor and immune factor led to generate OA together. Chinese traditional medicine classified it into arthromyodynia, rheumatism involving bone, tendon injury, strain category, presumbeechwood creosoteits main pathogenesis as deficiency of GAN,PI,SHEN, minor pathogenesis as phlegmatic hygrosis, blood vessel stasis.By retrieving compositions published on modern medicine journals in the latest decade, etiopathogenisis, mechanics of soreness, patho-alteration , symptoms and diagnose,advancement of treatment about OA has been indicted in documents portion, and peculiarities of traditional Chinese medicine treatment, insufficient and research status quo included. It provides a new way for later study.clinical research:Purpose: to study clinical therapeutic effect and safety of integrity of zhendao , to attack a vital, tendon-soothing maneuver.Method: all patients was selected from those who came to visit traditional Chinese medicine department of orthopaedics chaoyang hospital of Beijing between 2004.8-2005.8. The total number was 80. They were classified into two groups at random. One was management group, 50 patients were treated with integrity of zhendao , to attack a vital, tendon-soothing maneuver. Another was control group, 30 patients were treated with intraarticular injection of sodium hyaluronate 20mg/2ml ( produced by pharmaceuticals company of Shandong furuida ).Patients of management group were received zhendao treatment fortnightly interval, tendon-soothing maneuver treatment 15 minutes twice a week. Continuous course treatment was four weeks. Patients from control group were received intraarticular injection of sodium hyaluronate 20mg/2ml every week. All patients was evaluated after four weeks.Result: Analized the data with statistics, we found the effective rate of management group was 92% but control group 83.33%.Distinct difference was between two groups(p<0.05). The curative effect of management group was superior to that of control
