At the age of knowledge-based economy, knowledge capital has become the key of competition among enterprises. Knowledge workers, as the carrier of knowledge, take response of the creation, use and value added of knowledge. The traditional monetary compensation system has been no longer able to match the needs of knowledge workers. It became a focal point to enterprises that how to build a C&B system matched with the characteristics of knowledge workers to make motivation effectively. Although the total rewards bring in the view of“internal”and“external”compensation, but it still a hot problem among academia that hoe to combine these two to maximize the effectiveness of incentives.The total rewards incentives for knowledge workers are the research object of this paper. This paper compounded theoretical analysis and empirical research, and made deep research on content as follows:The study on the type of knowledge workers. The concept of knowledge workers is defined with the method of literature, based on which the type of knowledge workers is divided initially and the P-S model is founded.The study on the structure of total rewards. This paper defines the concept of total rewards as a starting point, and combines literature research and interviews on collection, categorization, refining and finishing of elements about total rewards. On this basis, the "internal" and "external" compensation are divided uniformly, the integrated model of total rewards is found as well.The discussion about total rewards incentives for knowledge workers. Based on the integrated model of total rewards and P-S model of knowledge workers, the framework of empirical research is constructed and the hypotheses is proposed. The study and questionnaire is designed as well. Through the statistical analysis of data, first, the relationship between the practical motivation degree, anticipant motivation degree and the whole motivation degree to knowledge workers from total rewards can be further understood; second, the effect of total rewards incentives from background variables of workers (especially the type of knowledge workers) can be deeply discussed; third, the integrated model of total rewards can be modified and the hypotheses can be tested.By adopting the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis method, the former research results about total rewards incentives for knowledge workers are collated and compared, the characteristics of total rewards incentives for knowledge workers and the limitations of existing theory are summarized as well. Combined with the result of statistical analysis, the feature of constituent, characteristics of motivation and status of motivation are pointed out, which give a practical instruction to the total rewards incentives for knowledge workers of China.
