Abstract


Since from the last century of 70 years, Hills first fabricated a short-period fiber grating.(Fiber Bragg grating---BG). After more than 30years of development, the technology of fiber Bragg grating fabrication has been greatly increased. Now the FBG is widely used in optical communication and sensing fields and became indispensable optical components. As many types of fiber Bragg grating, the Tilted Fiber Bragg Grating developed slowly, in spite of it’s superior characteristics that attract a few of researchers who to pay more attention. It is the difference of TBFG in the FBG that the plane of refractive index modulation of grating has an angle with the geometrical axis of fiber core instead of vertical. In addition to coupling of output mode to the fundamental mode pro and con, as FBG, TBFG also can distribute the part of the light coupled into the cladding. Lead to coupling between based mode and continue mode.This paper primarily include the following aspects:first introduced the course of development of fiber Bragg grating, as well as its applications in the field of communications and sensors. FBG provides the base of theoretical and practical for research of TBFG. From the Maxwell’s equations, we shows FBG resonant conditions according to the principle of planar grating diffraction theory, and derived transmission characteristics such as the resonant wavelength of the reflection and bandwidth of coupled mode. These theories offers some useful guidance in the process of fabricated TBFG by dint of existing equipment of the Key Optical Engineering Laboratory of Chongqing Normal University. We successfully Fabricated TBFG with oblique angle of 0°、2°、5°、12°in virtue of the traditional method of phase-mask. We survey the transmission spectrum of TBFG with different oblique angle to employ the broadband light source and a spectrometer. As a result of comparing the experiment results with theoretical analysis, we found that the measure data generally are consistent with the results of coupled-mode calculation. It needs to point out that our operation didn’t accord with experimental criterion completely. In addition to that above, we detected the sensitivity of self-made TBFG with different oblique angles putting in the Ultrasonic Cleaner in order to provide a test for the TBFG as noise sensors.
