Abstract

Wireless sensor networks (Wireless Sensor Network WSN) is deployed in the region detected a large number of low-cost micro-sensor nodes, formed a multi-hop self-organizing network through wireless communication system, the purpose of collaboration and awareness, acquisition and processing network coverage area perceive objects and sent to the observer, can be widely used in military, commercial, medical care, environmental monitoring and other fields. In a wireless sensor network, the media access control (MAC) protocol determines the radio channel used, to allocate limited radio communication resources among sensor nodes, the underlying structure used to construct the sensor network system, the performance of the sensor network greater impact. Traditional wireless network MAC protocol can not meet the design requirements for wireless sensor networks, can not be applied directly. The MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks has been widespread concern, has a very important practical significance. This paper first introduces the architecture of the wireless sensor network, the existing MAC layer protocol and MAC protocol design focus on the energy consumption of wireless sensor networks and performance indicators. Then, on the basis of S-MAC design for WSN MAC protocol for a particular network application, and its realization. S-MAC for sensor networks demand for energy saving and self-organization, mainly through periodic sleep for low duty cycle operation. But the periodic sleep under the fixed duty cycle of S-MAC mode communication delay. This design dynamic duty cycle adjustment mechanism to adjust the duty cycle of the nodes in the network traffic when unexpected situations in a timely manner, the use of a work cycle to send multiple data packets, which can reduce delay and improve the network throughput; concludes with a program of maintenance of the network nodes at the same time in order to avoid conflict of node competition designed to adjust the contention window backoff strategy based on high and low flow position, in order to achieve fast access and high flow low flow low conflict; the node to be able to regularly update the neighbor information whether the probe link crash. MAC protocol design in the NS network simulation platform specific implementation, and design a wireless sensor network simulation simulation the AWK program processing method to complete the extraction of trace file data and the network of three Statistical analysis of key performance indicators (energy, delay, throughput). The results show that, this article on the basis of the improved S-MAC protocol design compared to the original S-MAC and 802.11 MAC protocol, the performance improvement in energy savings, the average throughput, latency and network maintenance, network communications The agreement further research has a strong practical value. Finally, the research summary of the work, and the outlook for further work.
