Abstract

In the practice of translation, the translator and more emphasis on the significance of starting to understand the sentence from the syntactic structure, corresponding thus obtained to the meaning or form of the source text and the translation language. This paper attempts to use Halliday's functional linguistic theory of sentence-level information transfer. The language has to express the meaning of the following three: the concept of meaning, interpersonal meaning and textual meaning. Not only to be passed in the translation of the first two senses, but also delivered a discourse meaning. The discourse is the meaning of the information structure, thematic structure and interface system to achieve synergy. The information structure refers to the exchange of information is divided into known and new information from the point of view of the information recipient. Under normal circumstances, the information sent by choosing known information as a starting point, and then the new information. In order to achieve a certain effect, the new information as a starting point. The arrangement of the sentence is always subject to the communication needs. Using this theory, the translator either from a new perspective analysis of the source language of this sentence, and can consciously adjust the sentence elements in the target language, reasonable arrangements for the information. Known information convergence above and leads to new information. Therefore, from the perspective of information structure translated sentences, the first known information arranged at the beginning of a sentence, the new information at the end of the sentence. Information focus is information issued by deliberately stressed, should reproduce them in an appropriate way in the target language, and at the same time to ensure the fluency of the target language. The information structure to make up for the lack of a static analysis of the syntactic structure, but the syntactic structure of the differences between the language can not be ignored. Should take into account the use of two analytical methods in the practice of translation. The body of the paper is divided into four chapters. The third chapter compares the similarities and differences between English and Chinese in the information structure. These similarities and differences, and provides the basis for the translation process effectively passing sentence. Information structure theory to guide the translation of the sentence is significant, but due to the differences between the languages, the limitations of the information structure in translation, need further refinement and improvement.
