Abstract


In Chinese philosophical history, there are conflict and mergence among Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. Neo-Confucianism came into being by not only adopting the theoretic consequences of Buddhism and Taoism but also taking Confucianism as the main context. Zhu Xi' dissertation">Zhu Xi was the great scholar of Neo-Confucianism, his theory was fluenced greatly by Buddhism during its formative course and had closed connections with Buddhism on ontology, the theory of nature and epistemology as follows: by comparing Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucianism with Buddhism, it is clear to recognize that Zhu Xi absorbed the ontological thought model of Buddhism; the formation of Zhu Xi’s theory of nature can’t be separated from criticism and assimilation of Buddhism; there are a lot of similarities on epistemic course, epistemic method and epistemic way between Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucianism and Buddhism. At the same time, Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucianism transcended Buddhism in knowledge and action by being based on adopting the epistemology of Buddhism.
