Abstract

Anti-Japanese War, an important period in the history of our Party and army, witnessed our party approach theoretical and ideological maturity and our army grow steadily in the course of its establishment of the base areas and its guerrilla war behind the enemy lines. As an prominent member of China’s first generation of leadership with Mao Zedong at the core, Deng Xiaoping had been holding very important posts for a long time during the Anti-Japanese War, such as commissar of 129 division and secretary of CPC Taihang branch. He , along with Liu Bocheng and other comrades , ensured the enlargement of the base areas and growth of the army by their initiative in implementing the party’s line, principle and policy as well as starting the work of the base areas behind the enemy’s line. During this period, many of his analyses developed so much so that they became an important component of Mao Zedong thought and his practice in political work demonstrated that he is both the builder and practiser of Mao Zedong thought. A number of his thoughts of this period boasts the source of Deng Xiaoping Theory.In terms of the Unified Front, Deng Xiaoping initiated a series of ideas, with the principle of independence at the core .As far as the strategy is concerned, Deng Xiaoping resolutely carry out CPC’s principle concerning developing the progressive forces, winning over the fence-sitters and isolating the diehard. In order to developing the progressive forces, Deng Xiaoping put forward the following measures as organizing, mobilizing and arming the masses, enlarging party’s organization, fostering the cadre, unifying and educating the intellectuals ; in order to win over the fence-sitters, Deng Xiaoping advocates to put the medium and minor landlords, enlightened gentries and businessmen as the priority and encourage them to make contribution for the Anti-Japanese War ; in order to isolate the diehard, Deng Xiaoping adopted a reasonable, advantageous and restrained measure and inflicted a heavy blow on those who sabotaged the unity and Anti-Japanese war cause. It is proved that Deng Xiaoping’s firm and flexible implementation and application of the anti-Japanese National Unified Front’s policies ,strategies and principles provided an important guarantee for the consolidation and development of the armed struggle behind theenemy’s line.Another important content of Deng Xiaoping’s political work in the period of anti-Japanese War is giving full play to the superiority of political work. To achieve the victory of the war, Deng Xiaoping devoted lots of energy to the study of the issue of political work in that particular period and gave many penetrating judgement on the political work concerning the recruits, prewar period, postwar period , army’s cultural work, disrupting the enemy forces, winning over the quisling army and behind-the-enemy-line armed work, etc. All his efforts forcefully guided the smooth operation of Anti-Japanese armed struggle and accumulated precious experience for the people’s army to bring the political work into full play.In the party’s building, Deng Xiaoping suggested that under the guidance of Mao Zedong thought, the proletariat’s Marxism should be applied to overcome non-proletariat’s non-Marxism existing inside our party for a more unified thought and a more concentrated attention to fulfill the Chinese revolutionary cause. When he led rectification movement in the Taihang District, Deng Xiaoping , based on the actual situation, expounded the goal and significance of the rectification movement, spoke highly of Mao Zedong , the party’s leader, and systematically analyzed the Marxism with Chinese characteristic-Mao Zedong thought.During the Anti-Japanese War, Deng Xiaoping accumulated an abundance of experience in the building of the party, the army, the political power and economy, which plays a significant role in Deng Xiaoping’s later ideological development and from which a lot of his thoughts derived when he led the people to build China into a socialist country with Chinese c
