Objective To investigate the serum homocysteine(Hcy) level in type 2 diabetics with cerebral infarction and its relative factors. Methods Serum Hey were measured by Fluorescence Polarization Immunoassay (FPIA) in 46 diabetics with cerebral infarction and 132 nondiabetics with cerebral infarction. Serum folic acids, vitamin 812, C reactive protein C(CRP) were measured. Results Diabetics with cerebral infarction had lower serum Hey level(P<0.05) and higher CRP (P<0.05) compared with nondiabetics with cerebral infarction. Hey was significantly correlated with folic acids, vitamin 812, CRP negatively and with age, mean arterial pressure, creatinine positively. The Hey level was markly elevated in diabetics with cerebral infarction smokers versus nonsmokers (P<0.001) . Multiple stepwise regression analysis show, the level of folic acids and mean arterial pressure may be the effect factors of HCY in type 2 diabeticswith cerebral infarction. Conclusion The metabolism of Hey may be abnormal in type 2 diabetics with cerebral infarction. Folic acids and mean arterial pressure may affect Hey level. Vitamin 812,smoking may be related to the abnormity of Hey.
