Abstract

Christianity had been spread to Inner Mongolia of our country twice from 13th century to 19th century. All of the Christianity which active in the history of China, including Nestorianism, Catholicism, Christianity and Orthodox Eastern Church had set foot in Inner Mongolia. Academic Circles had learned different part of the situation about the activity of Christianity at Inner Mongolia in 13th century, but seldom touched up it from the middle period of 19th century to the beginning of 20th century. This paper tries to collect all kind of material such as local Chronicles, files, uses the theory and search method of history and religion, inquires into the Christianity of Inner Mongolia of this period, in order to expound the complete picture of the developing of the Christianity in Inner Mongolia from the middle period of 19th century to the beginning of 20th century. This paper is divided into five parts:The fist part expounded the general situation of Christianity.The second part discussed the propagation and its feature’s comparison of all kinds Christianity. At beginning, it discusses the propagation of all Christianity in Inner Mongolia in times, it emphasis on the situation about the activity of Catholicism in this area. Then, it discusses the comparison of Catholicism, Christianity and Orthodox Eastern Church’s feature at the base of the fore part, expounds that due todifferent profit of different social class, their policies, means and ways are different.The third part introduced all kinds of conflict were evoked by the propagation of Christianity in Inner Mongolia. The cause of the conflict were land problem, oral civil case and different habit of culture and custom, the three causes were not completely independent, on reverse, they were connected and infiltrated with each other.The fourth part introduced schools and other welfare of church in Inner Mongolia. It introduced features of schools, contents of teaching and developing and changing of church schools in Inner Mongolia in the paper. It also referred to other social welfares, such as church schools, started water conservancy. All of these measures speed up the step of modern times objectively in Inner Mongolia.The fifth part was the end of the paper. It analyzed the influence of Christianity from positive and negative in Inner Mongolia. It pointed out that company from the middle period of 19th century to the beginning of 20th century with the deep-going of Christianity in Inner Mongolia, on one hand, it brought about some unfavorable influence for the local people. On the other hand, in order to convenient for doing Missionary work, all kinds of these social welfares which were took adopt by Missionary, speed up the advance of Inner Mongolic society.In all, from the middle period of 19th century to the beginning of20th century, the Christianity which were compared with the invade of great powers destroyed the local people’s moral produces and lives undoubtedly, but it also brought the advanced science and technology to the close and backward Inner Mongolia, translated the backward Inner Mongolia into times’ civilization.
