Abstract


Proverbs are the essence of language, reflecting the relationship between language and culture. Through this relationship, the paper made a comparative study of English and Chinese Proverbs: comparing the same point with different points between them. Based on this comparative study, the authors come to the correspondence between English and Chinese proverbs: corresponding, the basic corresponding with does not correspond; relevance theory is based on translation principles and strategies. As the product of a special cultural environment, the proverb is closely related with the culture of a nation, has a great cultural value. Proverbs, people can learn about the history, geography, customs and traditions of a nation's cultural information. English and Chinese proverbs seared deeply into the cultural imprint of the English and Chinese, there is a lot of similarity with distinction. The same point is: the same origin, the same function and the like some of the characteristics. English and Chinese proverbs from people's daily lives, literary and religious texts, historical events, folk myths and legends, as well as foreign language. Proverb plays a guiding role in people's lives. English and Chinese proverbs have similar characteristics in terms of language and rhetoric.
