Correlation analysis and singular value decomposition (SVD) is conducted for the sea icedensity over the ocean to the east of Greenland and 500 hPa filtered potential height variance. The results show that correlation analysis and the first couple of mode obtained from SVD indicatethat the sea ice is positively correlated with the northern region of Pacific storm-tracks as well asthe southern region of Atlantic storm-tracks, while negatively with the southern part of Atlanticstorm-tracks and the northern part of Atlantic storm-tracks.Furthermore, composite analyses depict that winter sea ice anomaly is closely associatedwith Pacific-North American telecormection pattern and North Atlantic Oscillation at 500 hPalevel. The anomalously heavy sea ice in the key region enhances the pressure gradient, the jetstream, baroclinicity and 850 hPa meridional and vertical eddy heat flux to the north of 45°N inthe North Pacific. The anomalously heavy sea ice in the key region corresponds to the weakeningon the pressure gradient, the jet stream, baroclinicity and 850 hPa meridional and vertical eddyheat flux to the south of 45°N in the North Pacific as well as to the north of 41°N in the NorthAtlantic. Consequently, sea ice anomaly influences on the vigor and the center migration of theNorthern Hemisphere winter storm-tracks. But in anomalously light sea ice years, vice versa.
