Abstract


Image segmentation is very essential and critical in image processing and pattern recognition. It is the first step in image analysis and pattern recognition and determines the quality of the final result of analysis. This paper is a review. It mainly introduces monochrome images segmentation approaches including edge-based methods, region-based methods and integrating edge-based with region-based approaches, and offers the experiment results by utilizing the methods.
