Abstract


Compared with all previous mathematics curriculum reforms, the one we are confronted with now is the most intensive effort made ever. And the high school mathematics new curriculum standard has also changed a great deal. Therefore, it’s no wonder that problems arise now and then. But what problems are the most serious ones and require paying much more attention to is becoming a hot topic to the researchers.This paper is aimed at a probe on the problems arising during the conduct of the high school mathematics new curriculum. While writing this paper, the author used the unconstrained methods to design the questionnaire and then collected data from senior high school teachers in 2 key schools and 4 ordinary schools of Wenzhou. By investigation with questionnaire and data analysis, the author intends to illustrate the problems existing in the new curriculum reform. The opinions from different schools and teachers can also be seen in the data. This paper attempts to call more teachers’attention and encourage them to participate in the study of the new curriculum.By analyzing the statistics collected from the questionnaire, using the SPSS software, the author try to probe the main problems found in the high school mathematics new curriculum, and to study how factors, such as types of schools, locations of schools, teaching ages of teachers, genders of teachers, grades, years of teaching under the new curriculum, influence those problems. The conclusions are as follows: Firstly, there exist problems in the teachers’teaching procedures. Secondly, the problems of the new curriculum are mainly the ones below: a bit too many practical mathematic problems, not enough teaching periods for teachers from Grade 1, students’poor ability to do mathematical calculation, uncreative workbooks, and the un-lowed degree of difficulty of CEE (certificate of education examination). Thirdly, teachers from Grade1 and Grade 2 are obviously not adapted to the new curriculum well. In the end, the paper puts forward suggestions on how to conduct the new curriculum better in daily teaching practice. Firstly, teachers are the key factor in the conduct of the new curriculum, who are not only the conductors, but researchers of the curriculum. Secondly, teachers are supposed to understand the module-based teaching fully in order to reorganize the modules properly. Finally, teachers are suggested laying emphasis on developing the students’abilities of applying mathematical knowledge and on training the students’basic calculating abilities. Only in this way, can it be made clearer to high students that mathematics is of great importance.
