Abstract


Scientific staff are always stressing on the educational effects of biography. This article probes into some educational problems that teachers educate students using biographies of some famous mathematicians. The article discusses the educational values of these biographies, which make students learn more about success of famous mathematicians and have some educational effects on students as follows: First, it can arouse the interests of students learning mathematics in order that students can understand the teaching contents better. Second, it can let students know better why they should learn this subject well. Third, biographies of mathematicians can play an important role in developing the human qualities of students. This article analyses two sets of teaching material of Dandong, Liaoniing Province in the past ten years. This city has used the nine-year compulsory educational《Junior Mathematics for China》,based on《Teaching Program》and published by People’s Education Publishing House and《Course Standard》,published by Beijing Normal University Publishing House. This article analyses the mathematicians who were introduced in these two sets of teaching material and their biographies. It also gives us the difference and contacts between the two of them and puts forwards some personal ideas. So we can see their biographies are used as supplementary teaching materials. People are always concerned about their mathematical achievements, but at the same time they are putting more emphasis on the educational values of their biographies, which draw inspiration on how to educate students to the educational staff. The article indicates that teachers should stress on all-round development of students’comprehensive qualities and not rely on marks to evaluate educational effects. The article sets forth how to educate students based on these biographies when teachers use these two sets of textbooks. It also gives us some suggestions on how to do well in the teaching process of junior mathematics.
