Abstract


Senior high school students begin to think about their relationship with society and their future. If a student can not have a good understanding of their values, hobbies, personality preferences, career interests and aptitudes, they will not have a clear objective in their future life. In the daily lives, quite a few students can not understand themselves well and do not have a clear understanding of the types of career or the professional requirements for practitioners. Therefore, when they have to choose which subject to learn, which university to go to and which job to take, they do not have their own ideas; instead, their choice is just based on their teachers’or parents’wishes or expectations. As a result, they maybe end in failure in further education and employment. They can not design their career according to their specific situation rationally. That is, they are in great need of a lot of guidance and assistance. Our teaching should not only provide students with academic support, but also provide them with the necessary career guidance to help high school students make better career choices and career planning and designing.Although many people have done research on the students’ career planning, most of their studies explore theoretical issues and few of them mention how to integrate Career Education in subject teaching, especially in English teaching. Therefore, this study will focus on the integration of Career Education in English teaching. Firstly, the study defines“Career Education”from a theoretical point of view and analyzes current research status both at home and abroad; secondly, questionnaires are used to understand the level of students understanding of career development plans and expectations and level of English teachers’understanding of the concept and how they integrate Career Education in English teaching;thirdly, the study analyzes Students’Book: Advance with English to find teaching materials to integrate into Career Education. According to the teaching practice, this paper uses case studies to analyze the strategy in combining English teaching and career education. Finally, after the practice for a semester, the study analyzes the effectiveness of the teaching.This study combines theory with practice to explore the effective methods to combine Career Education and English teaching in high school. This study attempts to solve the problem of combination of high school students’career planning and English teaching in the hope of playing a role in the reform of secondary education curriculum and teaching practice.
