Abstract


Unmanned helicopters have good value in many fields, such as scientific researchs, military affairs and so on. The developed countries are doing researches on unmanned helicopter actively, but our country is lagging in this area. The production cost of it is higher . It is diffcult to control , and keep balance and short distance to control helicopter. Only to handle such problems, this kind of helicopters could be put into practise.To combine long-distance monitoring with VRML is key researches-orientated in monitoring field at present. A framework of the controlling and displaying system of the beyond-visual-range helicopter was constructed in this issue, and a preliminary study about this system has been done. The system collects the signals from tilt sensor, magnetoresistive sensor and GPS modules, and it gains the data of the helicopter’s pitch, tilt, direction and position. And the data are transmitted to PC through serial port wirelessly, and then they are analyzed and processed by the application of the system on the PC, to display and control the helicopter in the virtual scene. A research on the unmanned helicopter has been done in this paper, and it will play a positive role in this area.First, the signals are collected by tilt sensor, magnetoresistive sensor and GPS modules, the data such as helicopter’s pitch, tilt and direction and position are transmitted to PC from the singlechip computer, and they are analyzed and processed by PC, and then stored in the database, these have been studied. Second, the application of the VRML virtual reality technology in the development environment of B/S is studied. Through using J2EE, the control of the helicopter in the VRML virtual scene and the simulation display of the tested model helicopter’s pitch, tilt and direction in three-dimensional are completed. Under this basis, the database interface technology is applied in the software system, and by extracting the data in the database to control the objects in the VRML virtual scene. Not only the data of actual objects are stored but also the virtual object is showed in three-dimension.Experiments of the testing system indicated that it is feasible to control the 3D model helicopter by database technology, to display flying states in real-time and monitor flight pitch, tilt, direction, height and position. In the subject, the helicopter is controlled dynamically and interactively in the VRML virtual scene, it has good value for realizing the interactive control between the helicopter or flying equipment in realworld and module in the virtual world.
