Abstract

The repeatability of experiments in condensed matter nuclear science is essential in developing this research. The study of this dissertation is mainly to repeat“excess heat”phenomenon. The dissertation discussed the correlation between abnormal deuterium flux and heat flow in gas-loading systems. Gas loading method is much better than the traditional electrolysis because gas loading flux system may work at temperature higher than the boiling point of heavy water. Thus, we can search the reaction conditions of condensed matter nuclear science in a greater range of temperature which is close to the pragmatic usage.Since we began to study on condensed matter nuclear science in 1989, our laboratory has persisted to use gas loading method. It evolved from Tian Jian’s Calvet calorimeter work(140℃, correlation between heat flow and deuterium flux) and Li Jing’s“heat burst”(130℃, maximum temperature jump 10℃). Based on these previous work, we proposed a new way of pumping instead of former one. Pumping inside Pd tube avoids some uncertainties on calorimetry such as change of gaseous heat conduction coefficient, the heat of solution of deuterium in palladium and endothermic effect of adiabatic expansion due to pumping. We also used a bundle of Pd tubes instead of a single Pd tube to increase the surface area of Pd. Therefore, we may increase deuterium flux and make more portion of Pd tube approaching resonant temperature. This is the first time for us to use an industrial product (hydrogen purifier) for this research, so it may also open the road to producing useful energy. In this dissertation work, through the gradual improvement of the experimental apparatus, we can achieve the measurement of the multi-point temperature along Pd tube; through the electrical heating, we can calibrate temperature induced by heating power. It also makes us more confident to judge if there is any abnormal heat along the Pd tube. Meanwhile, the flow meter will monitor the deuterium flux permeating through the thin wall of palladium tube. After analysis of results and comparison with the control experiments, we conclude that the evidence of“excess heat”correlated with deuterium flux is compelling. Those results repeated not only the“heat after death”phenomenon in Fleishmann and Pons’experiment but also NASA’s abnormal results in early experiments. In our work, the excess power has been scaled up from the order of milliwatts to watts. The correlation between abnormal deuterium flux and heat flow tests also indirectly the theory of selective resonant tunneling. Finally, the dissertation also gives a detailed description of data acquisition system and the temperature control system based on USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface. Besides the friendly interface, good readable codes and high efficiency, the system is designed to use the simple and complete PID (Proportion, Integral, Differential coefficient) control algorithm.
