Abstract


In the era of knowledge economy, creative industry has become a new growth point. The new emerging creative industry originated in the amalgamation among culture, technology and economy. It plays an important role not only in meeting people’s growing spiritual needs, but also promoting the development of urban economy and society. Many international and domestic cities such as London, Tokyo and Shanghai have formulated supportive policies to support the development of creative industry.As a national historical city, Soochow is also an important industrial city. The rapid development of manufacturing industry in Soochow has created great economic benefits. However, high proportion of the manufacturing sector, high foreign trade dependence and resource constraints has limited the further development of the city; the development of traditional industry has faced with severe challenges. Therefore, devoting to the development of creative industry is the best choice for Soochow.The methodology of this article is from theory to empirical study. Based on the innovation theory, the industry cluster theory, the location theory, the growth pole theory and other relative theories, the theory part summarized the location factors, the process of creative industry agglomeration and explored the characteristics of creative industry agglomeration. The empirical part of this article briefly discussed Soochow’s creative industry, and then analyzed the factor that contributed to its agglomeration using grey system theory. Finally, this article put forward the policy recommendations on how to promote the development of its creative industry.
