Abstract


Jean Piaget has been the dominant figure in cognitive developmental psychology. Some of his ideas are fundamental to Constructivism. Constructivism is the further development of Behaviorism. Compared with Behaviorism and other cognitive theories, Constructivists put more emphasis on the process of building, creating, making mental structures instead of merely absorbing or reproducing products.Constructivists hold the view that learning is an active process. Learners are not a passive information receiver. In this point of view, during all development stages of learning, the student experiences his or her environment using whatever mental maps he or she has constructed so far.If the experience is a repeated one.If the experience is different or new, the student alters his or her cognitive structure to accommodate the new conditions. In this way, student can enrich his or her schemata and construct the meaning of new experience and knowledge. Constructivists also think learning process occurs just because of the specific context, cooperation with the teacher, friends and other students, and effective studying materials. Knowledge and experience can only be acquired by constructing the meaning of what you have learned. Learners are active constructors of knowledge. Learning process is not only a process of receiving information, storing information, and selecting information, but also a complex process of interaction between new experience and old experience, internal world and external world.In other words, how much knowledge students can acquire depends on the students’ability of using their personal experience to construct the meaning of what they have learned, not depends on the ability of reciting what they have been taught.So in the process of learning, teacher must create real context, which is beneficial for the students to construct the meaning of what they have learned. During the whole process of learning, students must cooperate with the teacher and other students. Through long-time theoretic exploration and teaching practice, we have constructed a unique system of learning theories based on Constructivism.Constructivist learning theories can be applied to almost every field of education including teaching the analysis of implicature. Many woks and papers on analysis of implicature based on constructivism have been published. The research in this field is quite fruitful. But there is still room for further research. For example, the theoretic research on the analysis of implicature is not enough, and there is less research on the analysis of implicature of teaching Chinese to foreigners. The aim of this thesis is to inspect, on the basis of previous research on the analysis of implicature, with the guidance of constructivism and reference to advertising language, the process of overseas students’constructing Chinese conversation.
