Abstract


The experiment was conducted to research the feed security of transgenic rice (with Bar gene and CrylA(c) gene). The effect of transgenic rice on the broilers’ production performance, slaughter performance, organ development and intestinal microflora were studied to provide the scientific theoretical basis for the safety assessment of transgenic plants. The experiment included three parts:The first experiment was designed to study the effects of transgenic rice on the production performance and slaughter performance in broilers. One hundred and twenty one day-old AA broiler chickens were allocated randomly into two groups with six replicates of ten birds. The two groups were fed with transgenic rice diet (the test group) and ordinary rice diet (the control group). The diets were fed between 1 and 42 days of age. The results showed that no significant differences in intake, weight Gain, FCR and other production performance were observed between the test group and the control group. Full-bore rate, pectoral rate, leg rate, abdomen fat rate and other slaughter performance had no significant impact between the two groups throughout the experiment phase. It is clear that the transgenic rice had no obversed deleterious effect on production performance and slaughter performance of the broiler chickens in this experiment.The second experiment was designed to study the effects of transgenic rice on organ development in broilers. The results showed that there were no statistically significant difference between the two groups in the organs index, the length and weight of intestine, and small intestine morpha growth (such as villus height and crypt depth). This experiment shows that there were no observed adverse effects of the transgenic rice on organ development of broiler chickens.The third experiment was designed to study the effects of transgenic rice on microflora of the intestinal tract in broilers. The results of conventional microbial culture methods showed that the microbial community of total aerobic bacteric, E. Colibacillus and Lactobacillus were no significant difference in ileum and cecum. PCR-DGGE and clustering analysis indicated that both between-group and within-group of broiler chickens had obvious individual differences in microflora, but no abnormity of microflora were found in ileum and cecum. This experiment shows that there were no adverse effects of the transgenic rice on the intestinal microbial community in broiler chickens.
