Li Jin-xi’s Chinese grammatical system has been studied in this paper, which belongs to history of Chinese grammar.Li Jin-xi was a founder of modern Chinese grammar, and he had made great achievements in this domain. The following may be considered as his representative works: (1)The New National Langrage Grammar (1924), (2) The Comparative Grammar (1933), (3)The Preliminary Chinese Grammar Guide(1952), (4)18 Chinese Grammar Lesson (1953), (5)Chinese grammar textbook (1957-1962), and these books have been researched systemically in the paper. (These books are called as "Grammar", "Comparison", "Guide", "18 Lessons" and "teaching material" respectively in the following.)The primary principles of research in the paper are respecting history and serving the present; and various methods have been used effectively for adequate description and analysis on Li Jin-xi’s Chinese grammatical system.This paper includes an introduction and six chapters. In the first two chapters, the works Grammar has been analyzed deeply, especially Li Jin-xi’s theory of sentence pivot has been introduced comprehensively, which has been given high appraisal by other grammarians. Another characteristic of the book is the author’s studying syntactic structures with semantic analyses. In addition, the content of the book is extremely broad, from punctuation to text.Comparison has been investigated in Chapter three, which was very similar with a textbook. It includes four parts: text, reference, note and question and so on. In sum, the author had completed the system of Pedagogical Grammar in this book. In addition, the other works has been investigated in Chapter four.On the basis of the above research, some important conclusions were made in Chapter five. They are as follows: First the author had adhered to the theory of sentence pivot in his all research; secondly, he also adhered to primacy of Pedagogical Grammar, and his grammatical works were the foundation of the Chinese Pedagogical Grammar.The formation of Li Jin-xi’s Chinese grammatical system has been discussed in the last chapter. The reasons are as follows: long teaching practice, carrying forward traditional academic and profiting from English grammar.The theory of sentence pivot was advanced by Li Jin-xi firstly, and his theory not only has play an important role in past, but also profit the present.
