Abstract


This dissertation attempts to introduce pattern approach originally used in the domain of architecture into the domain of instructional design. From the perspective of design science, using design thinking, it proposes a new pattern-based instructional design approach which is operable, reflect creative design view and suitable for teachers.The dissertation summarizes related research about pattern from architecture, software engineering and education, discusses pattern history, pattern definition, pattern organization, pattern combination, pattern format, pattern quality, pattern life-cycle and pattern philosophy. Then, it analyzes the meaning of design, design science, design thinking, design approach and design language in depth, mines the nature of design, addresses the relation of instructional design and the general design. It examines the limitations of traditional instructional design, advocates two different views of instructional design.Based on the research about "pattern" and "design", the dissertation proposes a new pattern-based instructional design approach, discussed functional orientation, application proposal, advantages and characteristics, practical framework of this approach. It thinks that pattern approach is an instructional design approach based on teacher’s practical knowledge.In order to use pattern approach in IT-support instructional design, the dissertation uses wiki and ontology technology to construct an instructional pattern base.The dissertation puts pattern approach and pattern base into practical use. According to the survey with researchers and practitioners, it evaluates the application effect of pattern approach and pattern base.
