To fill up the information gap between management team and production sides in a chemical plant and to meet the requirement from management team to monitor production process data as precise as possible, in a chemical production site it was decided to establish process information management system (PIMS) based on the InfoPlus.21real-time database from AspenTech according to plant actual circumstances.Taking use of technology of internet, data communication, real-time database, PIMS is built for a chemical plant by setting-up communication to plant DCS. All of the production process information is collected and stored by the system. Taking use of this system, production process information can be shared with in a whole company range.PIMS owns some kinds of functions, like monitoring production data on real-time basis, trend-viewing of the process data, searching information and data extraction to Excel. Some applications based on the process data extraction to Excel is including, production report, KPI calculation, utility monthly report, supply chain monthly report, CPI calculation, heat calculation of utility cooling water, key equipment monitoring report and off-gas discharging monitoring report.PIMS not only can provide the management team an on-line understanding of process status of the whole plant in most efficient way, but also can be act as a plant information sharing platform. Through monitoring target deviations and identifying under performed process units via PIMS, plant can subsequently reaching a more stable production and achieving goals of cost-saving. PIMS can bring more efficient management way and higher management skill to plant management team. Thus, company competency is finally increased with taking use of PIMS. So PIMS has much potential to be promoted to other plants or other industries.
