Abstract

Porous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) has played an important role insynthesising one-dimensional nanomaterials owing to their highly ordered arrays.Specifically, the effective combine AAO template with electrochemical depositionhas attracted great interest in one-dimensional nanometer materials. However, AAO isonly used as a template, while ignoring their own characters, such as opticalproperties. In recent years, with the deeply researching of the structure color, moreattention has been paid to AAO template which has the micro-structure like organisms. It is expected to produce the AAO thin film with structural color. Therefore, we havefabricated the samples by anodic oxidation and electrochemical deposition method, and characterized the microstructure、crystallography and optical properties by SPM、SEM、XRD、UV-VIS and digital camera to discuss in detail. The results are asfollows:1.Using once anodic oxidation method, a series of AAO/Al films were preparedin phosphoric acid electrolyte at room temperature. Optical photographs show that thePAA films have highly saturated color. Microstructural measurement results show thatthe above AAO/Al films have quasi-ordered microstructure. We analyzed that suchquasi-ordered microstructure characteristics of the AAO/Al film might effectivelyscatter the light reflected from the alumina/Al interface, thereby leading to highlysaturated color. The effective refractive index and maximum reflectedwavelengthλmax of AAO/Al films were calculated by theoretical analysis, theobtained results are in good accordance with experimental results, it proves thevalidity of the theoretical analysis. And we obtained the multicolor pattern byorganic-assist covering method.2. Using the AAO/Al films as the template, M@AAO nanoco mposite films withstructural color were synthesized by an ac electrodeposition method. Due to thedeposition of a metal element(Co、Cu or Zn), the effective refractive index ofM@AAO composite film increases, weakening the light reflected from the alumina/Al interface, thereby leading to more highly saturated color. UV-VISreflectance spectrum measurement results indicate that the maximum reflectedwavelength is in good agreenment with the observed color. XRD results indicateCo@AAO nanocomposite film has Co(002)preferential orientation, Cu@AAOnanocomposite film has Cu(111) preferential orientation, and Zn@AAO compositefilm has Zn(100) preferential orientation.
