Conductivity is an important physical quantity to judge the water quality. Now therequirement of water quality in Military, medicine, chemical industry, powerplants, electronics, Food&Beverage industries is much high. Therefore, it isparticularly important to have an accurate monitoring and control of the conductivityof water that they use.The most convenient and rapid way to measuring the conductivity of electrolytesolutions is by means of using conductivity meter which has been widely appliedin industrial production or experimental analysis. Traceability is achieved by usingconductivity standard solutions to calibrate conductivity meter. However theconductivity value of different concentrations of conductivity standard solutions is notlinear, so the most effective and direct way to calibrate conductivity meter is tochoose a conductivity standard solution whose value is as close as possible to that ofsample. But in our country, the lowest value of conductivity standard solution is84μs/cm(25℃) which is still relatively high. Therefore, it still has a large deviation byusing it to calibrate the conductivity meters. Even the uncertainty of measurementresults cannot be estimated.In this paper, by researching the affect of non-aqueous solvent on solutionconductivity, the formulation of the low conductivity standard solution is determined.With GBW(E)130281KCl Conductivity Standard Reference Material which value is1408.3μs/cm(25℃), a low conductivity standard solution which value is17.7μs/cm(25℃) was developed by using n-PrOH—H2O mixture solvent. It can beused for calibration of low range (0~20μs/cm) of conductivity meter. In addition, theuniformity and stability of the solution were verified and the uncertainty wasevaluated. The solution that developed in this paper will be greatly helpful to allwalks of life that using conductivity meter to the control value in low measuring range.The solution that developed in this paper will be more helpful to the fields that usingthe low measuring range of the conductivity meter for the quantitative control.
