Abstract

Two important problems of all world are energy conservation and environmentalprotection. And the problems are aggravated by rapid increasing number of cars.Traditionally, only35%of energy from automotive fuel changes into mechanicalenergy to drive cars, another30%was lost in the way of tail gas.30%of the energywas lost during the engine cooling. Loss of energy is very serious, even if cars with hybridpower or clean energy were used. Therefore, it is an extremely useful research for studyinghow to recyle the exhaust heat.System of automotive thermoelectric power consists of the thermoelectricgenerator equipment (based on thermoelectric generator) and power converter.Because of Seebeck, semiconductor thermoelectric generation (TEG) changes heatenergy into electrical energy, when working between cold and heat source. Thermalelectromotive force or current is pushed out. And power converter changes electricalenergy into useful energy which is required.Modeling the thermoelectric generator equipment is completed in this paper. Andalso designing and debugging the power converter are completed, too.First, the mathematic model of the thermoelectric generator(TEG) equipmentbased on TEG is built up. By applying the first law of thermodynamics, the dynamicmathematic model of the hot/cold side heatsink and the TEG are built up, and then theequivalent circuit model is derived. By simpling some components with smallthermo-capacitance, the completed dynamic equivalent circuit model is described. The source response of output voltage under input thermo-energy change and the loadresponse of the output voltage under load resistor change are analyzed. A smallexperimental equipment is setup. The voltage waveforms under both source changeand load change condition is recorded, which are as same as the simulationwaveforms. It proves the model and analysis are available.Second, designing、building and debugging the Boost charging power converter.Working principle and characteristics of main circuit and control circuit is concreteanalyzed. The one-cycle control technique is used in the automotive thermoelectric power system. Meanwhile,MPPT is introducted and used in design of software. Itprovides a reference for controling main circuit.
