Abstract


The dissertation arranges the skeletons of the theory of tectonics, emphasizing on Kenneth Frampton’s rationalistic tectonic theory, which has been considered the orthodox of architecture. The paper, combined with the tectonic practices of those contemporary architects, puts forward a phenomenon——anti-tectonics, which is different from the traditional thoughts of tectonics. Anti-tectonics always gained anomalously tectonic form by using some unusual means in levels of material、 construction、 structure and so on. However, anti-tectonics still belongs to tectonics, and the realness of its tectonic form represents as a kind of inverted-realness. Namely, the tectonic form represents the other side of realness of the architectural noumenon, one that is rarely known by the majority. The paper then analyzes the background of the emergence of anti-tectonic phenomenon, indicating the influence that anti-aesthetic thought made on it. The third chapter, as the main body of the paper, represents four main trends of anti-tectonics as a result of inducing and assorting a large quantity of living examples. These four trends explain the inverted-realness in different levels. And lastly, the paper makes a deep think on the relationship between anti-tectonics and reason. It indicates that anti-tectonics is not against tectonics but the narrow rational explanation of tectonics theory. The study on anti-tectonics enriches the meaning of tectonic culture.
