Abstract

Rain-fed field management technologies are useful so as to increase yield for jujubeforest in mountainous North Shaanxi without supplement irrigation. This experiment wasconducted in a jujube experimental station, Mizhi county of Shaanxi province. It set fourtreatments:1) water-saving pruning and bamboo-type water-harvesting ditch (HJ);2)water-saving pruning and clean cultivation technologies (HL);3) the traditional dwarf pruningand bamboo-type water-harvesting ditch (CJ);4) clean cultivation and the traditional dwarfpruning (CK). This research studied the separate effect and interaction of these two newtechnologies, water-saving pruning and bamboo-type water-harvesting ditch, on jujubevegetation and reproductive growth and transpiration through outdoor experiment and indooranalysis, in order to contribute to the spread and application of high efficiency water-savingtechnologies. All the results were as follows:(1) Water-saving pruning (HL) and bamboo type water-harvesting technology (CJ)applied separately could both increase the jujube leaf area, chlorophyll, bearing shoot lengthand diameter, though the effect of the later one was more significant and integration wasextremely significant. Water-saving technology decreased canopy breadth and lower treeheight, As a result, the tree was pruned to less than1.5m height, canopy size around2m2, andthe amount of secondary branches was15.421, and average amount of mother shoots8. Inthe flowering and fruit set stage, Jun11to July11, for the HL treatment, LAI was0.711.24,and canopy light transmittance was59.65%81.05%, and light interception was89.519.04mol.m-2.d-1.(2) Water-saving technologies (HL) and bamboo type water-harvesting ditch (CJ) appliedseparately could add jujube fruit set ratio, fruit vertical and horizontal diameter, averageweight, and both the amount of bearing shoot and the fruit setting ones. The amount oflignifying bearing shoots and average fruit weight impact significantly the yield, so both ofthem could boost the jujube yield, though the former one was more significant for raising thecapacity of lignifying bearing shoots fruit set greatly.(3) During the whole growth and development period (May26to Sep.26), averagely, water content with water-harvesting ditch was2.29%more than with clean cultivation. In the initial sprout and leaf expansion stage (May26), water content was the lowest value for bothtreatments. Then the water content fluctuated dramatically in flowering and fruit set stage, finally increasing6.06%and4.72%for water harvesting and clean cultivation treatments, separately. The water content scope in the fruit expansion period was the narrowest during thewhole stages for both of them.(4) Water-saving technology (HL) and bamboo type water-harvesting ditch (CJ) couldincrease the water use efficiency and yield for rain-fed jujube. The results showed that HLenabled the jujube to produce66.49%more than control, while its counterpart produced42.17%more yield and The integration produced the most and, and49.36, separately. What’smore, HL could also raise prototype Vc and soluble sugar content, while reduced significantlysoluble solids content. By contrast, the CJ decreased significantly the prototype Vc andsoluble sugar content, but had no effect on soluble solids.
