Abstract
Objective:To study the Eucommia ulmoides gum as a matrix for the composite material preparation and comparison of different contents in the gas phase nano-silica effects on mechanical properties of composite, as well as for root canal filling effect. All of these are in order to explore the applicability of the Eucommia ulmoides gum as root canal filling material.Materials and methods:To extract Eucommia ulmoides gum from the plants of Eucommia ulmodes Oliv by using comprehensive method. Adding different content of inorganic fillers which had been accepted surface modified, such as barium sulfate, gas phase nano-silica and nano hydroxyapatite, forcing molding after mixed by different recipe to get four kind of root canal filling materials in which the Eucommia ulmoides gum were as the matrix. To measure the mechanical properties of those four groups (A1, A2, A3, A4)we got, together with the pure Eucommia ulmoides gum (AO), then used the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and the Tcanning Electron Microscope to observe the functional groups of modified inorganic fillers and the surface morphology of the composites. Furthermore, four different components(A1, A2, A3, A4), pure Eucommia ulmoides gum (AO) and Obtura180℃Gutta Percha Pellets were filled into the fresh extracted premolar root canal by using Obtura II technology, the X-ray and the Scanning Electron Microscopy to observe the effect of root canal filling.Results:1.The fourier transform infrared reflection(FTIR) show that: through the surface treatment of fillers, the surface chemical groups has changed;2.The scanning electron microscopy of Eucommia ulmoides gum composite show that:inorganic fillers in Eucommia ulmoides gum base body dispersed evenly. With the increasing of the content of gas phase nano-silica, surface materials fingerlike projection length is reduced;3. Along with the increase of the content of gas phase nano-silica, the hardness of Eucommia ulmoides gum composite assumes the trend of escalation, tensile strength increases at first and then decreases (the maximum tensile strength appeared in A1, A2group), elongation at break assumes the trend of decrease;4.To fill extracted teeth with Eucommia ulmoides gum composite material receive good filling effect. With the increasing of the content of gas phase nano-silica, surface materials fingerlike projection length reduced.Conclusion:1.The surface modified fillers can be better dispersed in the matrix of the Eucommia ulmoides gum, and to form up the composite of the Eucommia ulmoides gum.2.1t plays a enhancement effect in Eucommia ulmoides gum composite by the increasing of gas phase nano-silica. The performance of the changes are as follows:an increasing trend for the hardness, tensile strength was decreased after the first increase, but the elongation was at break downward trend.3.The Eucommia ulmoides gum composite materials can be injected into the root canal in heat flow and achieve a better sealing effect. So it is expected to develop into a new root canal filling material.
