Abstract

Abstract: objective: The present study compares the mechanicalproperties of two different endodontic accesses in maxillary incisors bymeans of3D-finite element analysis, in order to study the influence ofendodontic accesses on stress distribution for different structures, andprovide a theoretical basis for further studies and clinical applications. Methods: Based on the thin-layer computed tomography of a humanmaxillary incisor and combined with Abaqus and Mimics software, two3D-finite element models were developed, representing two differentendodontic accesses, namely labial endodontic access and palatal endodonticaccess no damage to the incisal edge. An arbitrary chewing static force of100N was applied with respective angulations of45°to the toothlongitudinal axis at the level of the surface of the dental crowns in third cutwith one-third border. The displacement value and maximum stress valuesand stress distribution of tooth structure were calculated and analyzed. Results:(l) Three-dimensional finite element models of different endodonticaccesses in maxillary incisors have been built.(2) In normal bite forcefunction, the labial endodontic access of the biggest comprehensive wayopen pulp displacement, the biggest to the maximum displacement, lippalatal vertical displacement and maximum is about to displacement areslightly smaller than the palatal endodontic access. Especially the biggest to the displacement and biggest breath vertical displacement is most obvious, prompting the labial endodontic access on the stability of biomechanics moresmall.(3) The palatal endodontic access of the biggest cut teeth Von Misesstress far outweigh the labial endodontic access. The labial endodonticaccess under the way of cutting teeth Von Mises stresses distribution moreuniformly. Conclusions:(1) The generated three-dimensional finite elementmodels of different endodontic accesses are highly similar in geometry andmechanics to the real instance. With the SCT image reconstructiontechnique and the engineering software, oral biomechanical researches canreconstruct the model precisely, quickly and flexibly.(2) It is concluded thatthe mechanical properties of the two endodontic accesses, namely labialendodontic access and palatal endodontic access, were different. The labialendodontic access shows better mechanical properties.
