Abstract

Lignocellulosic biomass is the most abundant and renewable material in the world. Ethanol production from lignocellulosic material is a potential and feasible method because there are many advantages such as achieving meaningful energy security, balance of trade, rural employment benefits, and others. Lignocellulosic ethanol production included pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis and ethanol fermentation from sugar. In this paper, we used the simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) approach which converts lignocellulose into ethanol by combining sacchrification with fermentation in a simultaneous manner. For increasing enzymatic efficiency and the final ethanol concentration, our work was focused on the followings:1. Firstly, we optimized the method for determining the content of hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin with neutral detergent treatment and acidic detergent treatment with 72% sulphuric acid.2. Secondly, cellulase production was improved with optimizing the pre-culture and innoculation conditions.3. Futhermore, the conversion efficiency and the ethanol yield from corncob residue (CCR) were increased with optimizing the SSF process, such as fermentation temperature, yeast innoculation amount, the ratio of substrate etc.
