Abstract


The University President is the soul of the university, a university was successfulor not, critical to the survival and development of the University as a leader of theUniversity of the leadership of its principal plays an important role. At present, we arein the strong challenge of the knowledge-based economy, technological revolution,audio-visual culture, network technology, mass culture, is in an unprecedented periodof transition, people put forward higher requirements for university presidents. In sucha complex environment, in the face of a cultural paradigm update times of change, theyhave neither the forefront of consciousness and international perspective, the long-termvision and strategic thinking, but also a clear school goals and has a unique philosophyof education, improve leadership level, the master of modern leadership theory, butalso familiar with the Universities operation. Therefore, how to select the UniversityPresident abreast of the times, has become imperative.The United States has the world’s leading universities, has a rich theoretical andpractical experience in the management of the institutions of higher learning, includingtop universities in the United States the principal selection system is more mature.Therefore, the study principal selection of the best American universities system,analyze and summarize the features and advantages of the reform of the system toprovide reference for the selection of university presidents in China.At present, the selection system of the university presidents in the relevantlegislation is not perfect; principal selection of administrative and bureaucratic; vaguedefinition of the selection criteria, the lack of actual operability; selection process to thelack of democracy. Therefore, from the following aspects of University Presidents ofChina’s selection system reform: First, to improve the higher education legislation togive the University of the legal entity and the selection of the legal status of mechanism;Second, improve the modern university system with Chinese characteristics; clearresponsibility of government. transformation of government functions; to solve a seriesof administrative and official position, to restore the University of essence to achieve tothe Chief; to promote the professionalism of university presidents; six, and promote the selection of scientific methods.University presidents in the selection of reform, the selection of the stock of thesituation, the most insight and creativity will be able to accurately grasp the pulse ofthe community, leading the university to adapt to the social development needs tobreak the limitations of the times to defend the basic functions of the University for thecommunity spirit civilization to make a positive contribution to the President; selectedto promote academic freedom, to create a unique academic and cultural environmentfor the University to build the Chancellor of the academics involved in the democraticmanagement system; the selection of a strategic vision, scaling the heights of courageand firmly push forward the Higher educational reform and development of principals.When we have such a university president, to create a world-class universities in Chinadreams will truly become a reality.
