Abstract


Modern wireless technologies, particularly cellular networks offer an opportunity to streamline the communications between train crews and dispatchers. The BaoShen Railways have instituted a system utilizing custom SMS messaging control component across China Mobile and China Unicom GSM wireless networks. This system works with the Train Dispatching Control System (TDCS) and sends locomotive running schedules and train number information to train crews and receives automatic receipt confirmation, thereby improving the efficiencies of railroad transportation.
