Abstract


One of the main problems to be solved in the process of building enterprise information system is how to obtain valid information from vast amounts of business data. By combining analysis technology, data access and query technology, decision support system serves as an important method for information acquiring. Meanwhile, the report is a significant carrier of the business data. Therefore, efficient reporting systems deployed in the decision support system play a key role in the information construction of enterprises.Based on an actual project, a dynamic reporting system based on Web is built in this paper using the technology of on-line analytical processing. This system employs block-based design, including data source acquisition module, report templates management module, reports application modules, and system management module. The coupling between two of the various modules is small, so it is easy to extend the functions of the system.The reporting system implemented in this paper focuses on the data and discusses in detail the whole process of data storage, extraction, analysis, and use. In this system:(1) the data source is divided into two different types, i.e., structured data and semi-structured data, and there are different storage methods for the two types of data source. This method can solve the issue of storage and use for the semi-structured data;(2) this system defines a "selecting value function" to complete the OLAP process. Without the need of basic knowledge about structured query language (SQL), users can complete the data extraction only through the corresponding selecting value function. At the same time, the selecting value function is divided into three grades, which makes it easy to use and more flexible;(3) The reports temples are designed, and thus the repeating reports can be created easily, which reduces the workload of the user. Moreover, each cell in the templates can extract values independently, so the production of reports is very flexible and the users can make reports with any format.The success of the development for reporting system lies in whether the reporting system can be used in the actual business of the enterprises effectively. In this paper, the applications for the proposed dynamic reporting system in data display, analysis, and measurement are described, which elaborates how to apply the proposed system in the actual business of the enterprises, verifying the validity and superiority of the designed reporting system.
