Abstract


The ability to navigate is crucial for both human existence and production. With the development of transportation and space technology, the navigation sensor has already been the research focus of navigation technology. Many insects can use perfect navigation mechanism. For example, the desert ant Cataglyphis is able to forage in hundreds of meters away while return back to its nest precisely and on a straight line. In addition, many insects such as spiders, locusts and butterflies can navigate with the polarization skylight. Research shows that the physiological structure of these insects can receive the polarization skylight and change it into navigation information for mobile navigation.According to the research, the polarization navigation sensor was designed which can output the direction and location information. The polarization sensor is based on MSP430, high precision, low power consumption and with simple structure.The main content is as follows:Firstly, the navigation principle of desert ant Cataglyphis is analyzed which includes the stable polarization distribution mode in the sky and description of desert ant physiological structure sensitive to polarization light, and the mechanism of navigation sensor was given. Secondly, Sensor prototype hardware system of the navigation sensor based on MSP430was designed, including light signal receiving circuit, photoelectric conversion and signal amplifier circuit, signal filter circuit, analog to digital conversion circuits, interface circuit based on serial interface communication and wireless communication, signal processing circuit, storage circuit and GPS module. The sensor can collect, storage, process and transfer the direction and location information. Thirdly, a software system was designed. Low power consumption was realized by setting low power mode. The system can receive GPS information and extract position information by UART. UART and wireless communication function can be realized by setting serial communication. The code is elegant and short to make sure that the sensor can work well. Finally, printed circuit board and metal shell were designed, sensor welding and debugging were completed. Performance test experiments were carried out by combining the hardware and software and a sensor prototype was assembled. Processed data results indicate that this prototype is stable and precise and can meet navigational demand.
