Abstract


Both China and Australia are important countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Since 1972, the formal establishment of diplomatic relation were made between the two countries., bilateral economic and trade of the two countries have entered a new era of rapid development. There exist synergy and imbalance in the trade of the two countries, and China at a disadvantage. It’s important to analyse the reasons of trade imbalance and to know the impact of imbalance on economic of the two countries. This paper do a research on trade imbalance between China and Australia.Papers about international trade between China and Australia write in three aspects:1. Analyze benefits gain from the establishment of FTA; 2. Analyze structure of international trade between China and Australia; 3. Analyze specific trade between China and Australia.First, we review the history and status quo of bilateral economic and trade of the two countries. Then summarize the character of trade between two countries, reveal that trade imbalance exist in both trade in goods and trade in service. in the third part, we analyse the reasons of trade imbalance and get some results of trade imbalance in goods:asymmetric interdependence between China and Australia lead to the asymmetric dominance in bilateral trade cooperation; Merchandise which China import from Australia almost were strategic commodities and lack of alternativity, while merchandise which Australia import from China were almost fungible commodity; China enterprises take risk of loss from fluctuation of foreign currency exchange rate not only import merchandise from Australia but also expot to Australia.The reasons of trade imbalance in service:The international competition of China’s service was lower than Australia; Over 60% of trade in service between China and Australia on the education which Australia has very strong international competititive ability, less than 0.5% of trade in service between two countries on the IT which China has strong international competititive ability.In the last part, we make an analysis the impact of imbalance on economic of the two countries base on the model of VAR and give four advices.1. RMB as nternational trade between China and Australia currency of settlement; 2. Reserve Strategic resources selectively; 3. Enhance develope the market of Australia; 4. Cooperation with Australia service industries which have strong international competition
