Abstract

The rare-earth atoms are a sort of complex atoms with an unfully filled inner shell, which are important not only for development of novel light sources, such as autoionization laser, but also for many applications, such as laser isotope separation, universe observation. The study on the spectrum and the dynamics of autoionization Rydberg states of Eu atom is presented in this thesis, which can not only provide important experimental evidence, but also be helpful to test the quantum theory.Firstly, the even-parity highly excited states of Europium (Eu) atom have been investigated by employing resonance excitation and electric field ionization (EFI) method. Finally, the atom is detected by the electric field ionization (EFI) method.Secondly, the papers not only discuss the theory and design of electron lens, but also reveal the process of produce and installation of the system of electron lens. The aim is achieved by comparing between parameter of theory and experiment. The lifetime of the4f76s (9S)np bound Rydberg series of Eu atom are obtained with stepwise resonance excitation and detection method of electrical field ionization. In the experiment, not only the accuracy of the wavelength and intensity calibration can be made, but also the SNR is improved by optimazing the laser controlling soft ware. The polarizing plate and analyzer are adjusted, making sure the laser is horizontal polarization laser which interact with atom beam. These are exact demands; otherwise the inverse Abel transformation can not be performed. This work not only enrich the information of spectrum of Eu atom and the branching ratios of electron of autoionization states, but also the velocity-mapping image method is firstly used in research of Eu atom.
