In our country, automobile manufacturing industry occupies an importantposition in manufacturing, at present, in order to improve die quality smallamount of cutting parameters are used, and the influence of tool edge radius onthe processing quality which can not be ignored. The minimum cutting thicknessis existence in plastic materials machining progressing as the existence of tooledge radius, when the actual cutting thickness is less than the minimum cuttingthickness, cutting the surface of workpiece will enable. And the seriousdeformation of tool appeared in hardened steel mold machining processing. Asthe improper selection of allowance, the sliding phenomenon often appearsbetween tool and workpiece, and reducing the accuracy of mold machining. Therefore, to determine the minimum cutting thickness of mold material, moldsteel milling limit cutting depth prediction model under the condition ofconsidering the tool deformation which has an important significance to improvethe quality of mold finishing machining.Through the finite element simulation, theoretical analysis and experimentalmethods, and taking Cr12MoV which is common die material used in automobilepanel producing as research object, limit cutting depth in the finishing process isresearched in this study. Through the finite element simulation softwareABAQUS, this paper makes research on the minimum cutting thickness of moldsteel materials under different tool edge radius conditions, and then therelationship between mold steel materials minimum cutting thickness and radiusis determined.A new test method is designed by which the millingtrace can be observed, through this method, the minimum cutting thickness of the workpiece materialcan be researched by experiment, the minimum cutting thickness of mold steel isdetermined, the accuracy of the simulation model is verified, and the influence ofspeed effect on minimum cutting thickness of mold steel materials is studied. Established milling depth limit prediction of die steel model whichconsidering cutting parameters, tool radius, curvature radius of workpiece andtool deformation on the ultimate impact of the depth.Hardened steel milling testswere conducted with different radius of curvature of workpiece, and the influenceof spindle speed, feed rate and radius of curvature of the workpiece to the depthof cut. Study verified the accuracy of the milling limit depth model of cuttingtool which considering tool deformation, and provided basis for the selection andoptimization of mold finish cutting allowance.
