Abstract

Because of the excellent combination property of carbon fiber reinforced plastics, it has been widely applied in large components of aerospace, automotive, high-speed rail and military industry and so on. The equipment needs to process a large number of holes in order to achieve high quality and reliability of the connection on these components. But carbon fiber reinforced plastics is very difficult to machine, machining carbon fiber reinforced plastics by conventional technology, the dimensional precision and surface quantity is difficult to be guaranteed. So, many countries and companies start to research the helical milling technology. Compared with the conventional drilling, helical milling technology can improve the defects caused by conventional drilling, cost savings, higher flexibility, and can greatly improve the processing quality. In this paper, T300AG/80has been taken as the research object and researched the tool parameters, tool wear mechanism and tool wear area of carbon fiber reinforced plastics hole-making.In this paper, the principle of helical milling has been analyzed. The drilling and helical milling contrast experiment, the number of tool edges experiment and tool wear experiment table has been built. In the some technical parameters, take some experiments to compare the helical milling with conventional drilling. On this basis, choose the better tool materials, coatings and geometric angles, compare the different numbers of tool edges, and select the reasonable numbers of tool edges finally. In addition, this paper also theoretical analyzes and experimental researches for the experiments with the coated tool wear. The impacts of various factors on the tool wear have been analyzed by an orthogonal experiment. The relevant conclusions have been concluded. Using the single factor experiment to analyze the impact of spindle speed and feed rate on tool wear. A geometrical characteristic study and calculate of tool wear area is researched using digital image processing method. In this paper, the helical milling technology is better than conventional drilling in many aspects has been proved by experiments, the appropriate tool parameters have been selected, and tool wear mechanism and tool wear area have been analyzed. It establishes the foundation for the further researches, and provides the important bases for adjusting the reasonable tool structure and parameters and improving the production efficiency.
